About Us

At the SGCMA Annual General Meeting held at Deer Park G&CC on Monday 24 February 2025, 96% of the votes cast were in favour of the name change to Club Management Association of Europe Scotland.

The change of name reflects the associations commitment to industry leading education and support, by closely aligning with the Club Management Association of Europe (CMAE) and its MDP programme.

There will now be an period of change to the associations name, website, etc.

Chris Spencer

Company Secretary

Chris has 18 years experience of golf management within both proprietary and private members clubs. He began his golf career at Strathmore Golf Centre near Alyth in 2002 as General Manager before moving to Clitheroe Golf Club in early 2005 to become their General Manager/ Secretary. He then moved to The North Berwick Golf Club in early 2007 to become their Managing Secretary. Whilst there he became involved with the GCMA Scottish Region as a Committee member and later Regional Captain in 2011. He moved to Glasgow Golf Club as General Manager in late 2018 and his most recent club post was as General Manager a t Bothwell Castle Golf Club. He took over as Company Secrertary of the SGCMA in June 2024. He is married to Evelyn and has 2 children, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren!

Craig Bell

Finance Director

Craig is a chartered accountant and worked in various senior financial management positions in local government and the NHS. He took early retirement in 2011 from his position as Head of Finance for the East Renfrewshire Community Health Care Partnership. Having served on the committees at both Whitecraigs and Western Gailes Golf Clubs, he subsequently took up the position of General M anager at Hilton Park Golf Club in 2013 and served there until April 2019. He successfully completed his CMDIP in 2017. He started as the Company Secretary in 2019, retiring in June 2024.. Craig married Susan in 1984 and has 2 grown up daughters and has rece

David Addison

Chair

Having qualified as PGA professional, David then moved to Italy to work at Castiglion del Bosco Golf Club. It was working in Italy where he found himself wanting to get more involved in Club Management. David then moved back to Scotland and held management roles at Rowallan Castle and Muckhart Golf Club before joining Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club as the General Manager. In 2024, David was recognised by the PGA and was awarded the designation of PGA Fellow Manager. David is delighted to join the board of Directors at the SGCMA to help engage in the Young Golf Club Managers Group.

WHY DO WE EXIST ?

To help improve the performance of clubs through the leaders of those clubs, who will be trained and ideally qualified in the post.

HOW ARE WE DOING THAT ?

The creation of one independent body representing Scottish club managers working in partnership with those who share those aims in order to –

Influence a calendar of national & regional educational events that support clubs & their managers,
Promote the MDP as the recommend pathway for club managers, &
Build additional support for club managers/leaders in clubs of all sizes.

HOW WILL THE SGCMA BE FUNDED ?

In line with the history of the two previous organisations, members subscriptions plus financial support from corporate partners to help provide a calendar of relevant education.

HOW WILL THE NEW ORGANISATION BE GOVERNED ?

By 9 Full Ordinary Members nominated by the membership to match the skillsets required of of each Board position/job description, plus up to 2 non executive directors. With the exception of the Company Secretary, all Board positions are voluntary, with expenses paid for necessarily incurred expenses.

HOW WILL WE KNOW WE ARE SUCCESSFUL ?

Delivery of a full calendar of educational events, seeing 200 managers educated. (Evaluations exceeding 80% and 85% respectively)
To grow membership of the organisation year on year
